Background

Benilton graduated from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Campinas, SP - Brasil) with a BSc and a MSc in Statistics and from Johns Hopkins University with a PhD in Biostatistics. He was an intern at Affymetrix (Algorithms and Data Analysis) and a consultant for NimbleGen. Benilton is an active developer on the BioConductor Project and joined the Computational Biology Group in 2010.

Research

Benilton's interests are the development of statistical methodologies and their efficient implementation as computational tools to support the analysis of high-throughput experimental data. He is the developer and maintainer of a number of BioConductor packages, including:
  • oligo: package to preprocess oligonucleotide microarrays (Affymetrix and NimbleGen);
  • crlmm: efficient implementation of CRLMM (Carvalho et. at. 2007) - genotyping algorithm for SNP arrays (Affymetrix and Illumina); also implements Copy Number tool for the same arrays;
  • pdInfoBuilder: annotation builder.
