| Background |
Benilton graduated from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Campinas, SP - Brasil) with a BSc and a MSc in Statistics and from Johns Hopkins University with a PhD in Biostatistics.
He was an intern at Affymetrix (Algorithms and Data Analysis) and a consultant for NimbleGen. Benilton is an active developer on the BioConductor Project and joined the Computational Biology Group in 2010.

| Research |
Benilton's interests are the development of statistical methodologies and their efficient implementation as computational tools to support the analysis of high-throughput experimental data.
He is the developer and maintainer of a number of BioConductor packages, including:
-
oligo: package to preprocess oligonucleotide microarrays (Affymetrix and NimbleGen);
-
crlmm: efficient implementation of CRLMM (Carvalho et. at. 2007) - genotyping algorithm for SNP arrays (Affymetrix and Illumina); also implements Copy Number tool for the same arrays;
-
pdInfoBuilder: annotation builder.
